Top 10 Quotes from Jesuit Saints & Blesseds

Not all Jesuits are created equal. Proof: in the Jesuit university where I studied, the buildings and roads were named after the great Jesuit saints and blesseds (and all the rest were eh --never mind).  Those old timers sure knew what they were talking about because their words ring true even and especially today. Here are the best of the Jesuits and the wisdom they have to offer:

1. “We should always be disposed to believe that that which appears white is really black, if the hierarchy of the Church so decides.”  --St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuits

2.  “Seek grace in the smallest things, and you will find also grace to accomplish, to believe in, and to hope for the greatest things.”  Bl. Peter Faber

3. “It is better to be the child of God than king of the whole world.” -- St. Aloysius Gonzaga
4. “God is within us and…we are in Him, and … this presence of God is a great motive for respect, confidence, love, joy, fervor.”  St. Claude La Colombiere, S.J.

5.  “It is not the actual physical exertion that counts toward a man's progress, nor the nature of the task, but the spirit of faith with which it is undertaken." -- St. Francis Xavier
6. "God gave Himself to you: give yourself to God." -- Blessed Robert Southwell

7. "Charity is that with which no man is lost, and without which no man is saved
."-- Saint Robert Bellarmine
8. "If you have too much to do, with God’s help you will find time to do it all.”—St. Peter Canisius

9. “Our true worth does not consist in what human beings think of us. What we really are consists in what God knows us to be.” Saint John Berchmans

10.  “…think of the great joy the good will feel at the thought of the service they’ve paid to God. They will be glad because they’ve suffered something for love of him… and didn’t fix their hope and attention on the things of this world that we leave so soon. …I shall reflect on myself and ask: “What have I done for Christ? What am I doing for Christ? What ought I do for Christ?” –St. Stanislaus Kostka

In case you missed the first and most important point written by St. Ignatius himself, let me repeat it in bold, large caps:
We should always be disposed to believe that that which appears white is really black, if the hierarchy of the Church so decides.”
Did you hear that all the way there, now?  Happy Feast Day, St. Ignatius and may the new breed of Jesuits rise to the level of holiness set by the trailblazers! Thank you to my sister, the Ignatian teacher, who compiled this for me.

I always love reading quotes from the saints. The Jesuits have given us many great warriors for the Church Militant, and many great examples. Isn't it great how timeless their wisdom is? Thanks for visiting my blog and commenting.
